We all know how difficult it is to commute in Mumbai whether
it is by road, rail or foot. We all have faced the brunt of Adamant Auto wallas
of Mumbai day in and day out in our lives. At peak hours, it seems as if they
vanish or their autos are out of fuel or are ready with any other excuse.
My husband and I had once gone to meet one of our aunt who
stays at Evershine Nagar, Malad (West) near one of the busiest traffic signal.
It was around 9.00 p.m. in night. We were waiting near the T-Junction of the
signal for our turn to cross the road. The signal lights got green and the
motorist in front of us started honking at someone and shouted at him to move
aside. We were wondering what was
happening as people have got habit of honking without any reason. In the
darkness of night, we saw one 80+ year old uncle with very bleak eyesight and
feeble to be able to walk properly. He was struggling to get an auto and was
coming on the middle of road to find one.
He kept on asking each & every auto but all in vain. Seeing all this
we stopped and asked this uncle what happened and where he wants to go. He said,
“I want to go to Ramchandra Nagar”. We having very little idea of the areas in
and around Malad asked him to board our car.
We told him to give us the directions so that we can drop
him to his place. He said that he was struggling to find an auto since one hour
but no one had agreed to come along being a short distance. His house was 2.5 km away from the signal
which was on opposite side of the way we wanted to go. Since, he cannot see in
the dark properly, he is not able walk through his way and was looking for an
auto. We told him that not to worry and we had no issue to drop him wherever he
wants to.
Throughout the journey from the pickup point to his house he
kept on saying “God has sent Angels or have I done some good deed in my life
that God sent you both”. He also discussed about Mahim Church viz. St. Michael's Church and asked us to visit the church especially on Wednesday.
Finally, we dropped him to his place safe and sound. He said, “God bless you both! ” Rather we would say "God sent Messenger!".
